Baked by Melissa bite-size cupcakes in a variety of flavors, New York City

Our Story

YOU CAN DO ANYTHING.

Before Baked by Melissa took shape in 2008, Melissa Ben-Ishay worked as an assistant media planner. Losing that position became the pivot: her brother told her to return home, bake cupcakes, and pursue them as a business, and Melissa Ben-Ishay became a founder of the brand.

A mini format meets familiar favorites

The early concept compressed dessert favorites into mini, bite-size cupcakes: tie-dye, peanut butter cup, cookie dough, and s’mores were among the starting inspirations. Born in New York City, Baked by Melissa first met retail customers through a SoHo pickup window.

Built with a circle, not in isolation

Family, friends, and team all belong in Baked by Melissa's account of its shared vision. The female-founded business also credits New York City with giving its beginnings a particular mix of confidence, creative force, and forward energy.
